PERTH AMBOY – Mayor Wilda Diaz defeated five challengers on Tuesday to win a second term, despite receiving support from just 37 percent of Perth Amboy residents who cast ballots in the election.

Diaz received 4,404 votes, Billy E. Delgado 2,749, Frank Salado 1,587, Miguel A. Morales 1,180 Robert J. McCoy 533, and Sharon D. Hubberman 188 percent. Another 1,341 voters chose no one in the city’s mayoral contest.

Council candidates Fernando Irizarry and Lisa Nanton, who ran on the same ticket with Diaz, also won election.

In the city’s school board contest, William Ortiz, Kenneth J. Puccio and Obdulia Gonzalez were the top vote-getters out of a field of ten for three spots.
