Hospital Offers “Drop In” Bereavement Support During The Holiday Season

LIVINGSTON – There are times in our lives when the support and understanding of others is particularly helpful; the loss of a loved one is such a time. During this holiday season, to help those who have experienced the death of a loved one, The Pastoral Care Department at Saint Barnabas Medical Center will offer a free “drop-in” bereavement support group. The sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings from Nov. 13 to Jan. 8 (excluding Dec. 25 and Jan. 1) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the hospital’s Interfaith Chapel at 94 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston.

“For those who are grieving, the holidays can seem almost inappropriate and the additional strains of the holidays can create unbearable pressure,” explains the Rev. Thomas L. Craig, director of Pastoral Care at Saint Barnabas. “This group is unique because it provides weekly support throughout the holiday season.”

The non-sectarian group will discuss issues of guilt vs. regret, anger, handling pain and sadness, communicating with friends and family as well as adjusting to life changes especially around the holidays. Participants need not register, however they may address questions about the group to the Department of Pastoral Care by calling 1-973-322-5015.
