Goodwill Rescue Mission Needs Help

NEWARK — Goodwill Rescue Mission at 79 University Avenue is appealing for assistance after operating under near desperate conditions since the storm earlier this week.

The Mission has some damage, and no power as of Thursday night. Food on-hand is subject to spoilage if a generator is not in place shortly, though one was promised to be delivered Thursday evening. About 60 people are in the overnight shelter, with more than 100 coming off the streets for meals, according to Mission officials.

The Mission needs: 6 volt and D-cell batteries, flashlights, first aid kits, gasoline in containers for the generator, ground beef, sliced cold cuts, egg noodles, macaroni, water, bread, hot dogs, powdered or canned milk and dry ice.

Contact Ron Schober at 1-908-715-1141. Because of the spotty nature of cell service, text messages may be the best means of communication to that number. The main land-line number to the Mission 1-973-621-2063 is also working only sporadically.

Deliveries can be made directly to the Mission. Please note that without refrigeration, the Mission cannot accept large amounts of items that require being kept cold.
