PERTH AMBOY — The city remained in a state of emergency with a 6 p.m. curfew in effect, Mayor Wilda Diaz announced last night.

Electricity is slowly being restored throughout Perth Amboy, but PSE&G reported that between 2,001 and 5,000 customers remained without power as of 9:45 a.m.

Some road remain closed due to fallen trees and electrical lines, and schools will remained closed for the rest of the week.  McGinnis School on State Street and Shull School on Hall Avenue are being used as emergency shelters.

The Raritan Bay YMCA,t 357 New Brunswick Avenue, is open during the day until 6 p.m. and offers cell phone charging. The city’s two shelter locations also planned to distribute ice today.
