CLARK — Students in Krista Chapman’s sixth grade mathematics class at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School in Clark earned their first gold medal for perfect performance on responder questions. With the new Progressive Mathematics Initiative, students are asked to answer questions on individual responders. Once all students have submitted their answers, Smart response generates a pie chart with anonymous results. Each time all students answer a question correctly the pie chart is completely golden in color. Students earn stars for their class every time they have the gold circle. Miss Chapman’s 2nd and 3rd period class, pictured above, have correctly answered, as a class, 50 times so far this year, earning them a gold medal. Each time students see the gold pie chart they clap and share encouraging words to their classmates. Miss Chapman’s challenge “Go for the Gold” encourages collaborative working and peer tutoring since students want everyone in their class to succeed.
