WASHINGTON, D.C. — American Red Cross President and CEO Gail McGovern is urging people to contribute to the organization’s relief efforts in response to Hurricane Sandy.

The Red Cross has offered shelter to almost 11,000 people impacted by the storm, served more than 25,000 meals and snacks, and mobilized more than 1,700 trained disaster responders to support relief efforts in affected areas across 16 states, according to a fundraising email sent out Tuesday night. To contribute, visit www.redcross.org

According to Charity Navigator, McGovern earns a $501,122 annual salary, which is 0.01 percent of the non-profit organization’s expenses.
