STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A Jewish outreach organization says that a portable generator was stolen from its pre-school and community center in Staten Island.

Oorah, a national Jewish outreach organization, operates Torah Spot and Jewish Little Star Preschool at 374 Ridgewood Avenue, Eltingville, Staten Island. Oorah runs free programming for the Jewish community, adults and children, along with a subsidized preschool for children aged 3-5.

Due to the power outage caused by Hurricane Sandy, Oorah sent volunteers from Lakewood with a generator to try to keep the refrigerators, freezers and lighting functional to restart the center’s children’s programming. According to the organization, volunteers set up the generator in a safe and secure place and ran wires from the building to the generator. A few hours later, the generator was stolen

If anyone has information regarding Oorah’s missing generator, the organization is asking them to call 1-718-948-7827 or 1-800-21-OORAH.
