RAHWAY – Authorities have issued a mandatory evacuation notice for city residents who live in areas that have flooded in the past.
“We understand that residents want to stay in their homes, but we are expecting higher water levels than ever seen before here in Rahway,” officials said via statement. “Should this occur we may not be able to get to you to evacuate once the winds and flooding commence. “
Residents are warned that areas not prone to flooding in the past that they could still experience flooding from this storm. “Should you feel unsafe you should consider evacuating,” officials said via statement. “ Once flooding commences your ability to leave the area will be impacted. “
Residents in affected areas may go to a regional shelter established at the Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Avenue if they are unable to seek shelter with friends or family in non-flood-prone areas.
Official announcements will be made on Chanel 34 and via the Nixle alert system.
