NEW BRUNSWICK — A Carteret man has been sentenced to serve 14 years in a New Jersey state prison for sexually assaulting a child on various occasions, beginning when she was six years old, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan announced Wednesday.
Isidro Perez, 34, must serve 85 percent of the prison term before he can become eligible for parole under the conditions of the sentenced handed down on Oct. 22 in New Brunswick by Superior Court Judge Diane Pincus.
In addition, the judge said that once Perez is released from custody, he must register with police as a Megan’s Law offender, and will be placed on parole supervision for life.
Perez was sentenced after he was convicted on April 5 of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of sexual assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of the child.
During a seven-day trial, Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Lynn Pilone presented testimony and evidence showing Perez sexually assaulted the child in April 2010, in Carteret when she was 9 years old, and sexually assaulted her on various occasions between November 2006 and April 2007, in Hudson County when she was 6 years old.
Police began an investigation after the child’s mother learned of the assaults and contacted authorities.
