Rocky-O offers his take on The Rolling Stones' new single "Doom and Gloom"by rocky-o

Has anybody heard the new song by The Rolling Stones?

It’s called “Doom And Gloom”, and it is a stonking bit of rock-n-roll reminiscent of their earlier days…perhaps a little too reminiscent…

I know I definitely heard some “Jumping Jack Flash” riffs whirling around in there, along side some “Satisfaction” basslines, but…

Considering their more recent output, is that such a bad thing?

Mick, Keith, Woody and the boys are sounding like they got their old flame back, and the accompanying video is eye-fixing…

And…who would have guessed that The Stones were so influenced by Bob Dylan…

Oh yes, there’s plenty of Dylan to be found within this tasty little piece of vinyl, (especially shades of “Subterranean Homesick Blues”), including the phrasing of the lyrics, as well as the way Mick Jagger sings them…

…and to be influenced by Dylan ain’t such a bad thing…

But influences are nothing new…and this band, now going into their sixth decade, have gone on to influence most of the current rockers out there…and they are still rockin’ out there as well, promoting an upcoming tour along with this new piece of wax…

And simply to hear ‘The Stones’ sounding like ‘The Stones’ again, must mean they are actually being influenced by themselves this time around as well, which means they must have done something right along the way…hopefully…
