TRENTON — NJDOT officials today announced that a portion of Route 35 (St. Georges Road) is scheduled to be closed in both directions to rehabilitate a Conrail railroad grade crossing this weekend in Woodbridge.
Route 35 will be closed to traffic at the railroad crossing between Walter Drive and Kelly Street (just north of Woodbridge Main Library) at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21 and will be reopened around 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22.
- Motorists heading south on Route 35 will be directed to take Route 1&9 south to Green Street to Route 35.
- Motorists heading north on Route 35 will be directed to take Green Street to Route 1&9 north to Route 35.
The detour routes were coordinated with the Woodbridge Police Department. Access will be maintained to businesses and residential properties on either side of the rail line. NJDOT will utilize dynamic message signs on Route 35, Route 1&9, Green Street and Freeman Street to notify motorists of the closure and detours.
The freight rail contractor will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing and repave the asphalt approaches to provide a safer and smoother driving surface. The existing sidewalks will be upgraded as well. This project is part of NJDOT’s ongoing railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year on state and local roadways.
