CLARK – Meghan Zampella’s kindergartners at Valley Road School in Clark were asked to work together to create a story about an acorn in the fall. They voted on what the name should be – Ethan was the winner. Then kindergartners went around the circle sharing ideas while their teacher guided their ideas and wrote down the story. The kindergartners came up with the idea that the acorn would fall down into a nest and make friends with Buddy the Blue Jay who is their class mascot. When they were asked to create a problem for the story they created a squirrel that Buddy needs to rescue Ethan from and in the end all three become friends. Once the story was completed each student designed an acorn and the story with the acorns hangs on the hallway bulletin board for everyone in the school to read and enjoy.
