There will soon be an election for mayor of the city of Perth Amboy. I believe that it is clear to many if not most of the people of Perth Amboy that things are not going well. It would be difficult to find someone who feels that things are better now, than they were four years ago or that they are even moving in the right direction. It is clear that the time has come for a change.
I must say that I personally like Mayor Diaz and I think she has worked hard and done what she has believed to be right in the four years that she has been in office. The times have been difficult for not just the city but for the nation as a whole and it has not been an easy job. But the fact is her administration has not risen to the occasion and it is now time to move on.
The condition of the city is not good, but it has been worse. The late 1980s and the early 1990s saw the city on the brink of collapse; it was then that we saw the effect that a dynamic leader can have on a community. The actions taken in the last years of his administration are indefensible, but I don’t think anyone would disagree that the first 10 years of the Joe Vas administration were one of the best things that ever happen to Perth Amboy. We now as a community have a rare opportunity to repeat history and call on another leader of vision, drive and insight.
While there are a number of honorable people seeking to be the leader of our community only one has set himself apart from the group.
Billy Delgado has demonstrated that he is a concerned and committed voice for the people; he has been in the forefront of seeking honest, responsible and innovative government for years and Billy has shown vision, insight and understanding in the developing of his plans for the future of Perth Amboy.
While I have not always agreed with Billy and we have had some memorable exchanges during my time on the city council, I never doubted his concern or his commitment to the community.
Billy Delgado understands that leadership is a team effort and to that end has put together an effective leadership team of Jose Santos and Ana Mascenik for city council and also put together an efficient organization to help him in his campaign. He has demonstrated the organizational and leadership skills that the position of mayor requires.
Clearly the majority of the people of Perth Amboy feel that there is a need for change, but the question is in the choice of who is to lead that change.
Billy Delgado has put together a leadership team, an organization and demonstrated wisdom and insight in developing his vision for the future.
Please I would ask you to get behind a man and his team to help our city move forward once again. Please vote for Billy Delgado, Jose Santos and Ana Mascenik on Nov. 6.
