PHOTO: First Graders Find Different Ways To Solve Math Problems

CLARK — First grade students in Miss Price’s class at Frank K. Hehnly Elementary School in Clark practiced solving word problems on white boards. The students listened to number story given by their teacher, then solved it whichever way made sense to them. Students chose to use a number line, their fingers, pictures, tally marks, and number sentences to solve the problem. By using the white boards, every student was engaged in this activity. The first graders shared the different ways that they solved the number story, and they inspired each other to use multiple methods when solving problems.
