RAHWAY — An unidentified adult male sustained minor injuries day when the Northeast Corridor train from Trenton to New York City struck a car on the tracks near near 500 New Brunswick Avenue at about noon on Saturday.
NJ Transit spokesperson Courtney Carroll said the vehicle was on an elevated part of the rail line that is not connected with any road and police are investigating how the driver got his car on the tracks.
About 900 passengers were inconvenienced with an hour delay until they were transferred to another train that took them to New York City.
New Jersey Transit reported continued 10 to 20 minute delays in both directions as a result of the collision.
“The train involved did sustain some damage,” Carroll said. The victim was taken to University Hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries.
