We know that government agencies need to continue to listen to their customers along with using technology to make services easily accessible and convenient. This is the philosophy that drives the Christie Administration and the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC). With over 25 million customer encounters each year, we continue to make the MVC’s services readily available to our customers whenever and wherever they need them – and that includes never having to leave their home.
The MVC is preparing to rollout its new driver’s license and non-driver ID renewal by mail initiative that will let many of our customers “Skip the Trip” to an agency and completely avoid the line. We’re beginning this convenient renewal process with customers who were born on or before December 1, 1964 and are due to renew in November 2012. We anticipate that up to a million people in the coming year will be eligible to bypass a trip to their local MVC agency. Simply drop the renewal form and check in the mail, and within 7 to 10 days a new driver’s license or ID will be mailed.
While some customers not initially eligible to “Skip the Trip,” such as those with a Commercial Driver License (CDL), Graduated Driver License (GDL), Temporary Visa Restriction (TVR), interlock device, boat license or suspension, rest assured that the MVC will continue our efforts until all drivers will get a chance to “Skip the Trip.” Along with our goal of making online driver’s license and ID renewals a reality in the next 18 months, it is a perfect example of how the MVC is dedicated to improving the customer experience and making our services more convenient to the public.
