BURLINGTON, Vt. – Today, Democracy for America (DFA), endorsed Upendra Chivukula for Congress. Chivukula, an engineer by trade who speaks half-dozen languages, has served in the New Jersey General Assembly since 2002.
“Upendra is an outstanding individual, great husband, and fantastic candidate for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District,” said Jim Dean, chair of DFA. “He believes that his story is the embodiment of the American dream – beginning his work in politics as a community organizer in the 80s and being the first Indian-American being elected to the New Jersey legislature in 2002. Upendra will take his passion and fight to Washington where he’ll fight for the middle class and spur economic growth.”
“I want to thank Democracy for America for their support for my Congressional race in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, and I enthusiastically look forward to continuing our work together for the remainder of the campaign,” said Chivukula. “Only by moving forward together and removing the Tea Party stranglehold on Congress can we ensure the success of Medicare, Social Security, and protect a woman’s right to choose. I am humbled by this endorsement.”
Democracy for America is a Democratic Political Action Committee that boasts over one million members nationwide.
