CRANFORD—The Friends of the Cranford Public Library’s international film series continues on Monday, Sept. 10 with “Son of the Bride” (2001, 123 minutes), a comedy-drama set in Buenos Aires. The film will be shown at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Avenue.
An Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, “Son of the Bride” stars popular Argentine actor Ricardo Darin. Darin also starred in two other Argentine films that were international hits, “Nine Queens” (2001) and the “Secret in Their Eyes” (2009), which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language film.
Both “Son of the Bride” and “The Secret in Their Eyes” were directed by Juan José Campanella, who has also directed a number of episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In “Son of the Bride,” Ricardo Darin plays restaurateur Rafael Belvedere. Divorced, and beset with pressure from his business, his girlfriend, his father, and his mother, who is institutionalized with Alzheimer’s, Rafael is challenged to reassess his life, which leads to profound changes for both his business and family.
Admission to the screenings is free and all are welcome.
