Suspect In Perth Amboy Shooting Arrested

PERTH AMBOY – The suspect in an Aug. 27 shooting near the Cathedral International Church surrendered to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office this week, Acting Police Chief Benjamin Ruiz announced yesterday evening.

Noel Castro, Jr., 31, of Jersey City was arrested after turning himself in Tuesday, Sept. 4, and Judge Maria Del Valle-Koch set bail at $75,000 with no 10 percent option.

On Monday, Aug. 27, a shooting occurred near Cathedral International Church on Madison Avenue at approximately 4 p.m. No one was injured, but stray bullets damaged the glass doors of the church. According to Ruiz, numerous patrol units responded to the area and quickly secured the scene, and an investigation by the police department’s Investigative Division identified Castro as a suspect.

Detective Gilberto Simao is leading the investigation and police are asking anyone with additional information to contact him at 1-732-324-3813.

Castro is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
