NEWARK—New Jersey’s U.S. senators, Frank R. Lautenberg and Robert Menendez, today announced more than $360,000 in federal funding to enhance New Jersey’s criminal justice information sharing systems. The New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety will receive the funding through the Department of Justice’s National Criminal History Improvement Program. The federal resources will improve access to background check information for local law enforcement agencies across New Jersey.

“This federal funding will give New Jersey law enforcement better access to the information they need to carry out investigations and keep our communities safe,” said Lautenberg, a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science. “By improving efficiency and increasing access to criminal history, New Jersey’s first responders will be better informed and prepared to protect our families.”

“This funding will help boost our local law enforcement agencies capacity to protect our families,” said Menendez. “Having access to timely and accurate information criminal background can make the difference between being able to close a case or letting a dangerous criminal run free in our streets. Thanks to this grant, our law enforcement will have better, more comprehensive information with which to do their jobs.”
