JERSEY CITY — Senior center midfielder Brianna Taylor (Linden) scored twice and sophomore forward Amanda Filippone (Kenilworth/David Brearley) and freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Lima (Kearny) each provided a goal and an assist as the New Jersey City University women’s soccer team opened its 2012 home schedule with its first victory of the season, 5-2, over SUNY Old Westbury, on Wednesday at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
NJCU (1-1-1) led 2-0 and 3-1 before the Panthers (0-3-0) twice made it a one-goal game in the second half. But two minutes after OW made it 3-2, senior defender Angelica Glover (Union/Union Catholic) scored off a corner kick to expand the lead. NJCU outshot OW, 22-13 and leads the all-time series, 4-0 (18-3 goals differential).
NJCU next heads to Newark on Sept. 7 and 8 for the Scarlet Raiders Women’s Soccer Classic. NJCU meets St. Joseph’s College (LI) on Friday night at 8 p.m. before facing Widener University on Saturday.
