PERTH AMBOY – Police arrested a 40-year-old Edison man suspected of being a heroin dealer on Tuesday.
Members of the Perth Amboy Police Department’s Special Investigations Bureau arrested Jovanny A. Tavares in the area of New Brunswick Avenue and Maple Street on Aug. 28. Police recovered approximately 15 grams of suspected raw heroin powder.
Tavares was charged with possession of heroin, possession with the intent to distribute over a ½ ounce of heroin, possession with the intent to distribute heroin within 500 feet of the Perth Amboy Public Library and 1,000 feet of the Perth Amboy Adult School.
Judge Maria Del Valle-Koch set bail at $75,000, with no 10 percent option and required a bail source hearing.
The total street value of suspected drugs seized is approximately $1,500, according to police
Detective Sergeant Carmelo Jimenez Jr. led the investigation.
The charges against Tavares are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
