CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Newark Mayor Cory Booker will present the platform at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, Sept. 4, the convention committee announced today. He will be joined by retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Claudia Kennedy and California Rep. Barbara Lee.

Booker was one of many speakers announced by the Democratic National Convention Committee today, but so far he is the only New Jersey Democrat with a speaking role at the convention, which will be held Sept. 4-6 in Charlotte, N.C.

Booker co-chaired the party platform committee, and his speech is a result of that role.

San Antonio, Texas Mayor Julian Castro will give the keynote speech for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

Gov. Chris Christie will present the keynote speech at the Republican National Convention next week.
