Linden Police Blotter: Three Men Arrested On Gun Charges

All individuals arrested and charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Aug. 17 at 4:04 p.m. – At Walmart on West Edgar Road, police arrested Brooklyn, N.Y. residents Joseph Loglisci, 54, and Wilhelmina R. Yanas, 47, and charged them with shoplifting. Loglisci was issued a summons and released pending a court date. Yanas also had warrants from North Bergen and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office for contempt of court. She was transported to Union County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail, pending a court date.

Aug. 20 at 12:09 a.m. – In the vicinity of the 200 block of West St. Georges Avenue, officers Jason Mohr and Michael Cistaro arrested Darren C. Blair, 32, of Plainfield, Lamar T. Henderson, 26, of Plainfield and Mustafa I. Toney, 21, of North Plainfield on charges of possession of a handgun and receiving stolen property. Henderson and Blair were also charged under a “certain persons not to possess weapons” law. All three were taken to Linden Municipal Jail pending the setting of bail.

Aug. 20 at 8:56 p.m. – Pedestrian Anthony S. Hill, 49, of Linden was struck while crossing East St. Georges Avenue near the intersection of Chandler Avenue by a 2006 Toyota Tacoma driven by Qawi McGhee, 30, of Newark. Hill was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was reported in critical condition. An investigation is ongoing; police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call Inv. Danny Tristao of the Linden Police Department Traffic Bureau at 908-474-8505.

Aug. 21 at 5:36 a.m. – At the former Exxon gas station at North Wood and West St. Georges avenues, Officer Vincenzo Wegrzynek arrested William Bennett Jr., 50, and Gregory Bennett, 49, both of Plainfield, and charged them with theft, defiant trespass and criminal mischief. Gregory Bennett was also wanted on a contempt of court warrant from North Plainfield and William Bennett Jr. was issued summonses for being an unlicensed driver and driving with a suspended license. Both were taken to Union County Jail in lieu of $1,500 bail, pending a court date.
