PERTH AMBOY – Police arrested a 38-year-old Perth Amboy resident on drug charges after he allegedly fled from officers who attempted to make a motor vehicle stop on Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Jorge L. Gonzalez-Pineiro was charged with eluding, possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, and possession of heroin with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of East Green Street Park. He was also issued multiple motor vehicle summonses and held on multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest. Judge Maria Del Valle-Koch set bail at $150,000 with no 10 percent option.

Detective Sgt. Carmelo Jimenez Jr. observed Gonzalez-Pineiro allegedly operating a 2002 Honda Civic in the area of Fayette and Gifford streets at 1:43 p.m. on Aug. 15. With the assistance of a marked police car, Jimenez attempted to pull over Gonzalez-Pineiro for operating a vehicle with a suspended license and having several active warrants for his arrest.

Gonzalez-Pineiro allegedly accelerated and recklessly weaved in and out of traffic during a brief police pursuit that was terminated by Jimenez before the suspect vehicle speeded onto Route 440 South.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., members of the Special Investigations Bureau of the Perth Amboy Police Department and members of the Woodbridge Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit located Gonzalez-Pineiro hiding behind a residence on East Green Street in Woodbridge Township. Gonzalez-Pineiro was taken into custody without incident.

Police recovered 74 decks of suspected heroin worth an estimated $740, along with $310 in U.S. currency. The Honda was located inside of a garage of that residence.

The charges against Gonzalez-Pineiro are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
