Linden Offers Activities For Seniors

LINDEN – The Department of Public Property and Community Services offers a variety of activities for Linden seniors, including a bowling league, craft and dance classes, social clubs and more.

The Senior Citizen Mixed Bowling League will begin the 2012-2013 bowling season on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 9:30 a.m. at the Linden Lanes on Stiles Street. Any Linden senior citizen interested in joining the league as a team member or substitute bowler, may call the John T. Gregorio Recreation Center at 1-908-474-8627.

Free senior citizen craft classes are offered on the following schedule: Starting in September, classes will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, from 10 a.m.-noon, at the John T. Gregorio Recreation Center, 330 Helen Street, Linden, and the fourth Tuesday of each month at the 8th Ward Recreation Center, Bedle Place, from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Free senior citizen line dance classes open to all Linden residents age 50 and older, will be starting again Sept. 14 through Nov. 30 at the John T. Gregorio Recreation Center on Friday mornings from, 10-11 a.m. Instructions will include such dances as the rumba, cha-cha and line dancing.

Senior citizen clubs meet weekly from September through June. You can join at a business meeting, which is the first week of every month. The Retired Men’s Club, Tuesday Social Club and Senior Citizen Friendship Club meet at the John T. Gregorio Center, 330 Helen Street. The Tremley Point Seniors meet at the 7th Ward Rec Center on Tremley Point Road.

Linden residents 50 years of age or older may register for a senior citizen identification card from Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Senior citizens must bring proof of age, proof of Linden residency and their Social Security card. The I.D. cards are necessary for identification on city-operated senior citizen buses and in local stores participating in the merchant discount program.
