SUMMIT – On Sunday, Aug. 19, the Summit Farmers Market returns to its regular location at Park & Shop Lot #2 on the corner of Maple Street and DeForest Avenue. The market is open rain or shine every Sunday until Nov. 18 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Park and Shop Lot #1, at the corner of Woodland and DeForest avenues, will be undergoing construction and will be closed starting Aug. 20.
In its 19th year in Summit, the Farmers Market continues to be a popular Sunday morning destination where visitors can purchase fresh, local and regional goods, including a variety of organic produce, plants and flowers, and specialty items.
This summer, customers of the market had the opportunity to sample special menu items prepared by several Summit restaurants and Summit Downtown, Inc. hopes to add this as a regular feature of the market next season.
Give It Fresh Daily (G.I.F.T.), a produce donation opportunity, is a new initiative which has been very well received by both patrons and farmers at the market. Produce donated to G.I.F.T.at the market is distributed to organizations that provide food for those in need. Last weekend 350 pounds of goods were collected bringing the total accumulated so far this summer to 1,439 pounds of produce. According to Summit Downtown, Inc. Executive Director, Marin Mixon, “We are thrilled by the response to G.I.F.T. and anticipate visitors’ generosity continuing through the season.”
