CARTERET — The Borough will be hosting its second annual Battle of the Bands live musical competition on tonight, Aug. 18 at Carteret Waterfront Park. Dubbed “A Fistful of Sound,” the event will promote and showcase regional amateur musical performers through fun and friendly competition, and present a new entertainment venue to area residents and visitors.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. at what has become one of Middlesex County’s most popular waterfront parks. (In the event of rain, the competition location will be the Thomas J. Deverin Community Center and Library) A range of prizes will be offered to first, second, and third place winners, along with web-based promotions and media hosting at www.carteret.net . First prize is the chance to play at Carteret’s Ethnic Day and $1,000.
The borough-hosted Battle of the Bands will be judged objectively according to their own style by a range of criterion, and contestants may perform either originals or cover music. The event will be free to audience members.
“We were pleased to see such a great turnout last year,” Mayor Daniel J. Reiman commented, “with 15 registered performers and over 1,500 music fans. This is a great example of fresh, original arts programming that promises to grow in popularity. I wish all of our 2012 performers the best luck!”
