Remembering The Past: Dugan’s Bakery

by Diane Norek Harrison

Here’s a picture of the old Dugan’s Truck, which may be familiar to many of you, courtesy of Greg McGinty.

I’m looking for memories from when the Dugan’s bakery truck came to you home. Do you have memories in Union or Middlesex counties of the men who would come around selling fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat, or to fix things, pick up your dry cleaning and laundry or deliver your coal? I would love to hear your memories of the corner stores that would extend credit for groceries and allow payment to be made on payday. Please send what you remember from the bygone days!

If you have any winter or Christmas time memories for my winter columns, please send them by Oct. 1.

Email me at or send copies of your past material to me c/o CMD Media, 1139 East Jersey St., Suite 503, Elizabeth NJ, 07201
