ELIZABETH — Last week a Union County Grand Jury indicted a Plainfield man on six counts of sexual assault and criminal sexual contact after a police investigation revealed that he allegedly abused a teenage girl on a regular basis for two years, Union County First Assistant Prosecutor Albert Cernadas said.
Thomas McDaniel, 54, of Plainfield is being held in the Union County Jail on $300,000, said Cernadas. According to the investigation McDaniel allegedly abused the victim when she was between the ages of 14 and 16. Investigators were alerted after the victim confided in a friend who urged the victim to reveal the abuse to her parents. They in turn contacted police in March.
According to the investigation, McDaniel allegedly would take the victim to strip clubs and GoGo bars throughout Essex, Union and Middlesex counties. He also allegedly exposed the victim to pornography and assaulted her. He was indicted on Aug. 3 on first degree aggravated sexual assault, second degree endangering the welfare of a child, third degree aggravated criminal sexual contact, two counts of second degree sexual assault and fourth degree criminal sexual contact.
This remains an active investigation and authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact Det. Michael Lucky of the Plainfield Police Division at 1-908-753-3131.
These criminal charges are mere accusations. McDaniel is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
