Union County Police Arrest Man with Loaded Handgun in Plainfield Park

PLAINFIELD — Union County Police arrested a Plainfield man on a charge of unlawful possession of a weapon and recovered a fully loaded 9mm handgun on Sunday afternoon.

While on patrol in Cedar Brook Park in Plainfield Officer Dino Capra approached two individuals and immediately detected an odor of burnt marijuana. Capra found Tony Sullivan to be in possession of a partially burnt marijuana cigarette and arrested him, authorities said.

Capra also found a 9mm handgun loaded with a full magazine in Sullivan’s backpack and secured the weapon, authorities said.

Sullivan, 23, was also charged with possession of marijuana and hindering his own apprehension. He was being held on $50,000 bail in the Union County Jail.

The charges against Sullivan are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
