New Jersey Devils Welcome Dancers For Tryouts Aug. 19

NEWARK – The National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils are welcoming dancers to audition to become a part of the 2012-13 Devils Dancers. This year’s auditions will be held at Prudential Center in Newark on Sunday, Aug. 19 beginning at 11 a.m., with registration beginning at 9 a.m. at PNC Tower, located on the corner of Edison Place and Mulberry Street. Pre-registration for the audition is highly recommended.

The Devils Dancers are made up of women from all walks of life, including schoolteachers, dance teachers, students and business professionals. Competition to become a member of the Devils Dancers is high, as even returning members of the previous year’s team must audition to retain their slot. Last year, over 100 young women auditioned for 18 open dance team positions.

Dancers who are selected will not only perform at all Devils home games, but become ambassadors of the Devils Army, representing the best of New Jersey. The team makes numerous appearances for the New Jersey Devils and the team’s philanthropic arm, the Devils Care Foundation, bringing cheer, spreading good will and offering dance clinics throughout the state over the course of the season.

The Devils are seeking dancers ages 18 and over, with at least eight years of technical dance training. Dancers should bring kneepads, water, resumes, headshots, and wear flattering dance/work out attire including sneakers and/or other dance shoes. Hair and makeup should be performance ready.

Choreography will be taught by the Director of the Devils Dancers, Amanda Grace. Grace has been a professional choreographer throughout NJ/NY for over 10 years, has been in professional sports for over 5 years and is entering into her fourth season with the Devils Dancers. She most recently opened Flair Dance Academy and Yoga Center in Hillsborough where she continues to train dancers of all ages.
