LETTER: Heartened That Resources Are Available For Stutterers

I was glad to read your article “DVD available to local libraries addresses teens’ concern about stuttering” (July 19) and now that this DVD for teens is available at so many libraries in New Jersey. The teenage years are the most difficult for kids who stutter.

That the DVD is narrated by a teenager who stutters is key. I am not surprised that the Stuttering Foundation put out this much-needed video. The website of The Stuttering Foundation (www.stutteringhelp.org) offers many free resources to people who stutter of all ages, as well as to parents. The many streaming videos on the site are most informative and helpful. There is a Spanish-language version of the site at www.tartamudez.org that serves the Hispanic community. So many times Spanish-speaking people who stutter and parents do not know where to turn for help.

I must comment that this article was my favorite one of the whole issue because it is heartening to know that this video is at many New Jersey libraries; I wish that such a video had been out during my teenage years.
