Trudi’s Corner: A Note On My Absence

By Trudi Cunningham

For anyone who may have noticed that I had not submitted an article for a couple of weeks, it was not a question of something to write about. It was a problem as far as my health was concerned. I have been very fortunate in that direction and maybe do take too much for granted, as I developed a breathing problem. I had been invited for breakfast by a friend, and in rushing to get to the restaurant, I was actually puffing and could barely speak when I arrived. Once I arrived and calmed down, everything seemed O.K.

As the saying goes, “to make a long story short,” I called the doctor for an appointment several days later. I really wasn’t thinking of anything drastic, when he asked if I would like to go to the hospital that same afternoon. My reply was no, as I would have to contact my son to take me. The doctor then said to go the next day, and go directly to the Emergency area to be admitted, so that’s exactly what I did. I’m not an alarmist and I can tell you I never gave it a serious thought, but it was not a simple matter.

I go immediate attention in various ways with a heart monitor and a double shot of something to eliminate the fluid in my system. I guess in my situation, you would say “ignorance is bliss” and it was difficult to accept what was happening. What I thought would be a minor problem seems to be congestive heart failure, but not to worry as it seems to be under control with medication, loss of weight and proper diet. I had believed I might need a pacemaker, as a friend went through the same thing and does have one.

I sincerely thank my friends for their prayers and lovely “Get Well” cards and their offerings of help.
