ELIZABETH–Seven Benedictine Academy eleventh grade students were honored in June when they were inducted into the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society.
The ceremony held at the all-female Catholic college prep high school included the recitation of the qualifications for membership in the National Honor Society as well as a candle lighting noting the qualities of Knowledge, Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character that every member must exhibit. Each student received a blue stole as a symbol of their accomplishment.
The newest members of the NHS at Benedictine Academy are: Kai Alexander of Irvington, Michelle Colonia of Elizabeth, Tabitha Davis of Irvington, Martha Devia of Elizabeth, Norky Diaz of Newark, Heidy Isabel of Bloomfield, and Samantha Herrejon of Union.
Benedictine Academy is a Catholic, college-preparatory secondary school that was founded by the Benedictine Sisters in 1915 to serve young women in Elizabeth and the surrounding communities. The Academy is Middle States-accredited, and for the past sixteen years, 98 percent of graduates have been accepted to college. Students attending Benedictine Academy reside in Union, Essex and Middlesex Counties.
