United Way Of Greater Union County Dinner Raises Over $40,000

ELIZABETH – United Way of Greater Union County (UWGUC) hosted its 2012 annual “Evening of Excellence” dinner at The Winfield Scott Ballroom in Elizabeth on Thursday, June 21. The event is an upscale evening that brings together supporters and United Way partners to honor the outstanding work of United Way and its 2012 honorees who have had a positive impact on the community. It also serves as a forum to celebrate the accomplishments of the previous year and the ending of the 2011 – 2012 campaign.

This year’s event had over 190 supporters and raised over $40,000 through ticket sales, sponsorship and silent auction. The 2012 Premiere Sponsor was PSE&G. C.R. Bard, Inc. and Linde North America, Inc., were the Feature Sponsors. Enterprise Rent-A-Car, IBM, Infineum USA L.P., LJL Financial, and TD Bank were the Walk of Fame Sponsors. AGL/Elizabethtown Gas, Comcast, DuPont, NuStar Energy LP and Union County College served as Red Carpet Sponsors.

For 2012 United Way announced a new award, the Lifetime Legacy Award was presented to Larry J. Lockhart for his lifetime achievements of exemplary service and commitment toward creating positive change both in Union County and throughout the community. Over the past 40 years, Lockhart’s leadership has been influential in the State of New Jersey on various human service issues.

The Dell Raudelunas Spirit of Caring Award, named after United Way’s former CEO, is awarded to individuals in Union County that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to community service. The 2012 Dell Raudelunas Spirit of Caring Award was presented to Ella S. Teal, President & CEO of The Urban League of Union County. Teal has been with The Urban League for over 30 years. Under her supervision, Urban League has served over 3,500 county residents through its programs, distributing over $250,000 in direct emergency assistance for shelter, food and utilities and summer jobs.

The 2012 Community Cornerstone Award, given to individuals who LIVE UNITED in their local community and in Union County as a whole, was presented to Elizabeth “Liz” Garcia P.E., former Public Affairs Manager at Infineum USA L.P. For over a decade, Garcia gave her time, talent and resources to make a difference in the lives of others in the community. Her good work has had a lasting impact in Union County and has contributed greatly to advancing the common good for all.

In addition to the individual honoree presentations, United Way presented awards to a number of its corporate partners who have exhibited an extraordinary commitment to helping Union County and its residents. The following awards were presented to the corporations listed below:
