TRENTON – Route 27 will be repaved between 2nd Avenue and 5th Avenue over the next two nights in Highland Park, NJDOT officials today announced.
The resurfacing work will require overnight single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns through the downtown area of Highland Park between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning on Thursday night, June 28 and Friday, June 29.
Permanent restriping work and the installation of raised pavement-markings will require one further night of single-lane closures at this location. That work is not yet scheduled but is expected to be done within the next two weeks.
This segment of Route 27 was originally planned to be resurfaced under a $2.9 million project that repaved and restriped around four miles of Route 27 in New Brunswick, Highland Park, Edison and Metuchen last year. Scheduling conflicts with a municipal streetscape project prohibited the work from being accomplished at that time, so NJDOT is completing the resurfacing and striping work now under a statewide maintenance resurfacing contract.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org real-time travel information.
