NEW BRUNSWICK — Police are investigating the death of a 7-year-old girl, who apparently drowned in a residential swimming pool in New Brunswick last week, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Anthony A. Caputo, director of the New Brunswick Police Department, announced today.

Fieona Edwards of New Brunswick was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m. on June 19, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where she was taken after she was found in the pool in the neighborhood where she resided.

An autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the cause of death was consistent with drowning, but the results are incomplete pending the outcome of further testing.

New Brunswick police and city firefighters began a search for the girl after receiving a call at 5:52 p.m. on June 19, reporting that the child was missing. She was found in the pool at 6:42 p.m.
