NEW BRUNSWICK – The RWJ University Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that $185,000 was raised from the 24th Annual Invitational Golf Classic, which was recently held at Metedeconk National Golf Club in Jackson.
The event, which attracted 192 golfers, eclipsed last year’s fundraising total and raised the most money ever since the golf outing’s inception in 1988 to benefit Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH). The funds will be used to help support the expansion of services as well as fund existing programs aimed at providing health education and caring for the community served by RWJUH.
Under the leadership of Bernard Rineberg, MD, a long-time orthopedic surgeon and Board of Directors member at RWJUH, the annual golf outing has raised more than $2 million to support the hospital during its 24-year history. Dr. Rineberg has chaired every golf committee since the event began. This year, RWJUH dedicated the Rineberg Cup in his honor. The Cup will be awarded every year to the RWJ Golf Classic Champion.
“Dr. Rineberg has worked tirelessly to help this event grow and experience unprecedented success during his 24 years as Chair of the Golf Committee,” notes RWJUH President and CEO Stephen K. Jones, FACHE. “Under his leadership, the outing has raised millions of dollars to support programs at our hospital. When you think about the RWJ Golf Classic, you think of Dr. Rineberg.”
In addition to a full day of golf and putting contests, this year’s outing also included a buffet lunch, on-course refreshments, participation gifts, a cocktail hour and dinner, awards and raffle opportunities.
RWJUH extends its appreciation to the tournament’s Golf Committee and Glenn Mekles, who co-chaired the committee with Dr. Rineberg; and overall sponsors: Conner Strong & Buckelew and Vericon Construction Company and supporting sponsors: Foundation of UMDNJ, Haddad Brands, QualCare, Inc., Revenue Guard and TD Bank.
The hospital encourages everyone to circle Aug. 6 on their calendars for the 13th Annual Children’s Health golf outing to benefit children’s health programs on the hospital’s pediatric academic health campus at The Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes.
