LINDEN – Last Friday evening, Linden police arrested two women who allegedly shoplifted more than $1,400 worth of pre-paid wireless phones and clothing items from Walmart on West Edgar Road.

Nicole L. Hines, 26, of Irvington, and Tahirah Washington, 22, of Newark were charged with third-degree shoplifting and bail was set at $7,500.

The store’s loss prevention personnel notified police that they had two alleged shoplifters in custody at 7:25 p.m. on June 15. The women allegedly picked up several items of women’s clothing before entering the electronics department, where they are accused of using it to conceal numerous pre-paid wireless phones. The women then allegedly went to another part of the store and placed the clothing and phones into empty Walmart shopping bags that they had in their purses. Store personnel detained the suspects after they allegedly tried to leave the store without paying for the merchandise.

The charges against the defendants are merely accusations; they are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
