Royal Governor’s Arrest To Be Re-Enacted Saturday

PERTH AMBOY — The Proprietary House Association/Museum located at 149 Kearny Avenue, Perth Amboy will hold its annual reenactment of the “Arrest of the Royal Governor, William Franklin,” Benjamin Franklin’s son on Saturday, June 16, at 1 p.m.

Local Actor Kurt Epps will portray the Governor. There will be other costumed reenactors as well. View a moment of history recreated as the last Royal Governor of East Jersey is arrested like he was on June 19, 1776. Governor Franklin was placed under house arrest at the Proprietary House for months before being sent to and imprisoned in Litchfield, Conn.

Tours of the house will be held. Pictures with the Governor and other cast members can be taken by your own camera. No reservations are needed. The event is free, but donations welcome. There will be light refreshments. For information, call 1-732 826-5527 or email
