EDISON — The Wardlaw-Hartridge School held is 129th Commencement last Friday, June 8 on a warm afternoon on the front field.
Forty-three members of the Class of 2012 marched in, led by Catherine Badalamenti of Scotch Plains and Skyla Choi of Fort Lee carrying the class flag. The program began with the Star Spangled Banner and a welcome from Rhona Eserner, Upper School Head.
Three senior class members made remarks – Brian Downing of Scotch Plains (The Past), Aneesa Sonawalla of Edison (The Present) and Billy Buchbinder of Scotch Plains (The Future). Andrew Webster, Head of School, delivered a Charge to the Class of 2012 during which he challenged the graduates to pursue wisdom. Ted Osborne of Plainfield, Board of Trustees President, provided greetings and best wishes during his remarks.
Webster returned to the podium to award honorary diplomas to Reverend Leroy Lyons and Michelle Graham-Lyons of Plainfield. Lyons children have attended the school for every year since 1975 and four members of the Lyons family have graduated from the school.
The 43 graduates received their diplomas after Susan Swenson of Plainfield, Director of College Counseling, announced their names. The seniors in the choir joined the alumni in the singing of the school song before the recessional.
Parents, families, friends, faculty and staff joined the graduates for a reception in the All-Purpose Room following the ceremony.
