MORRISTOWN — The Arts Council of the Morris Area, in collaboration with the Dodge Poetry Festival, is seeking fine art submissions in any medium for a juried group exhibition entitled Giving Voice. This exhibition celebrates and is in conjunction with the 14th biennial Dodge Poetry Festival, North America’s largest poetry event, which takes place on Oct. 11-14, 2012.
An overarching theme of the festival, the process of “giving voice” allows the individual to bring his or her individual experience (his/her “voice”) to the words of a poem. In keeping with that theme, artists are invited to submit a visual interpretation/response to an excerpt from the poem entitled “Time’s Passage” by Fernando Pessoa (which is also quoted on the 2012 Dodge Poetry Festival poster):
I was brought up by Imagination,
I always traveled by her hand,
And thus I always loved, hated, spoke, thought,
Having every day this window before me,
Every hour being mine in this way.
Collaborative works between visual artists and poets are also encouraged.
The exhibition will be displayed at the Arts Council’s Gallery at 14 Maple, located on the 3rd floor in the LEED certified “green” office building at 14 Maple Avenue in Morristown, home to both the Arts Council of the Morris Area and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.
This show is open to all artists working in any medium who live or work in New Jersey. Exhibiting in New Jersey alone does not qualify as working in New Jersey. There is a limit of three submissions per artist. All accepted work must be professionally presented, ready for installation or hanging (by wire or D-rings); artists may be required to supply pedestals for 3D work. Accepted work cannot be substituted or changed and must be available for the entire length of the exhibition.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: Images (see below for presentation requirements), artist’s statement about the works submitted, up-to-date one page resume or c.v., and Submission Form with the Object List section fully completed, including for each image submitted, the title, year of work, medium, size (H x W x D), weight (even for 2D works), value for insurance/sale purposes, and whether the work is for sale.
DEADLINE for SUBMISSIONS: Thursday, July 12, at 5 p.m.; no exceptions. Receipt of submissions will be confirmed.
IMAGE PRESENTATION: Artwork shall be submitted by e-mail submitted to email@example.com in the form of JPEG images (resolution of 300 dpi). JPEGS must be named as follows: artistsname_titleofwork.jpg or jpeg. Note that “docx” files cannot be processed. Digital submissions must accurately represent the submitted work. The Arts Council of the Morris Area has the right to exclude/refuse any work which differs significantly from the selected work.
DELIVERY AND PICK UP OF WORK: All work accepted for exhibit must be delivered in person to, and picked up at the end of the exhibit from, the Arts Council of the Morris Area office at 14 Maple Avenue (3rd floor) in Morristown during one of the times set forth below in the Exhibition Calendar.
