RAHWAY — In the annual Rising Star Awards competition sponsored by Paper Mill Playhouse for New Jersey for high school musical productions, Rahway High School received nominations in three categories, Outstanding Achievement in Hair and Make-Up, Outstanding Achievement by a Chorus, and Outstanding Achievement in Choreography and Staging. In addition, student Nate Figueroa received an Honorable Mention for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.
Recently, Rahway was named as one of four new participants in the Paper Mill Playhouse Adopt-A-School Project. This Project is a four-phase, four-year, arts-in-education initiative aimed at bringing direct access to the artist in the day-to-day environment of the classroom.
The first year provides 40 students an opportunity to observe five Papermill matinees with supporting workshops. The second and third years focus on the school, with artists coming to Rahway to run workshops and help students stage a production. In the final year, students return to four evening Paper Mill performances as informed critics. Rahway dance teacher Alison Dooley says “I am very pleased about this new partnership. This is an exciting opportunity for Rahway students.”
