JERSEY CITY — Spirit Awards, the highest non-academic honor a student at Saint Peter’s Prep can receive, were presented to six students following the Ascension Thursday Mass, continuing a 30-year Prep tradition of recognizing the unsung heroes of the school community. The first Prep Spirit Awards were presented in November 1981 when the late Fr. John Browning, S.J. ’46, then principal of Saint Peter’s, began this tradition.
Among the six is Patrick Carney of Berkeley Heights, son of Melinda and Timothy Carney. Patrick is a graduate of The Academy of Our Lady of Peace in New Providence. Patrick also received the Dorothy Day Award, given for extraordinary service to the poor and underserved. Pictured l. to r., are James C. DeAngelo, ’85, Principal, Carney, and Rev. Robert E. Reiser, SJ, President.
Also among the six is Brian Toner, ’13 of New Providence, son of Tzu-lin and Patrick Toner. Brian is a graduate of The Pingry School. Pictured l. to r., are James C. DeAngelo, ’85, Principal, Toner, and Rev. Robert E. Reiser, SJ, President.
