ELIZABETH — St. Mary of the Assumption High School, Elizabeth, held its 82nd commencement ceremony on Friday, June 1. Diplomas were awarded to 69 students by Msgr. Robert Harrington, Pastor, and Principal Janet Malko.
St. Mary of the Assumption Church was the setting for the Baccalaureate Mass in the morning, as well as for the graduation ceremony Friday evening. Class Night was held on Tuesday, May 29at The Westwood, Garwood. Among the awards presented at that ceremony were: Valedictorian Award, Carla Gomes; Salutatorian Award, Tyler Hughes; Religion, Juan Gonzalez; English, Mercedes Igus; Spanish, Richonda Fegins; Social Studies, Matthew Borrello; Science, Carla Gomes; Mathematics, Tyler Hughes and Mechanical Drawing, Amanda De Georgio.
Scholarships amounting to over $9,600,000 were awarded to the Class of 2012. St. Mary’s students will be continuing their education at the following universities: Cleveland Institute of Art, Drew University, Drexel University, Fairfield University, Howard University, Immaculata College, Marquette University, Montserrat College of Art, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers University, St. John’s University, Temple University and the University of New Haven, to name a few.
St. Mary of the Assumption High School is proud of its students and long tradition of providing quality education for over eighty years to the children of Elizabeth and the surrounding communities.
