EAST BRUNSWICK – Playhouse 22, East Brunswick’s community theater, presents Ked Ludwig’s “Lend Me A Tenor.” The show runs June 8 through 24. All performances are Friday evenings at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
Mistaken identities abound as the plot spins wildly out of control, with two identical Otellos variously pursued by two women, each determined to seduce the famous tenor. It’s a big night for the Cleveland Grand Opera: famous tenor Tito Merelli is to perform Otello. But Tito accidentally takes a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. Saunders, the harried Impressario, assumes Tito dead and convinces his assistant, Max, to go on as Otello. The plan is working until Tito revives and dons another Otello costume and hilarity ensues. “Lend Me A Tenor” is a farce and not a musical.
Directed by Michael Fabian and starring Stephen D. Belfatti as Max and Anthony Rossi as Saunders. The cast features Jennifer Nasta Zefutie as Maggie, Patrick Andrae as Tito Merelli, Teresa Von den Steinen as Maria, Elena Marie Chalcraft as Julia, Jen Hanselman as Diana and Mark Kalet as the Bellhop.
Tickets are $20/adults and $18/seniors and students, and available online at Playhouse22.org, by calling the Box Office at 1-732-254-3939 or at the Box Office window. Playhouse 22 is located at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center at 721 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
