CLARK– Frank K. Hehnly Elementary School in Clark had a Memorial Day tribute to those men and women who have died serving our country in the armed forces. Members of the local American Legion, Veterans of War, and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary were present, representing our fallen heroes. Students read poetry and shared with the student body the meaning behind and the symbolism of the poppy. Each student proudly wore a poppy and sang “Over There” a popular war song, as part of the ceremony. The fifth graders thanked the guests by singing, “Thank You, Soldier” written and first performed by composer Joe Brucato. The program closed with a moment of silence during a rendition of “Taps” played by Hehnly music teacher James Vavra.
