RAHWAY — Rahway High School student Eva Jean was this year’s winner of the Pedro J. Rodriquez High School scholarship, a $1,500 award sponsored by the NJ Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages and NJ Bilingual Educators (NJTESOL/NJBE). This award is given to the author of the best essay written by a high school senior in the state by an English Language Learner who has been enrolled in a New Jersey English as a Second Language (ESL) program.

Jean took ESL classes for her first three years at the high school and is now in a mainstream English class. She was recognized at the NJTESOL/NJBE Annual Spring Conference award ceremony at the Hyatt Hotel, New Brunswick. Her Rahway ESL teacher, Diana Lagattuta, who is extremely elated to have had a student win this prize, was thrilled to accompany her and her family to this event.
