ELIZABETH – 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, New Jersey Region, which represents nearly 8,000 members, today announced its endorsement of Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage in the June 5 primary.
“Our members in Elizabeth and elsewhere in New Jersey know what an incredibly important election year this is,” said Milly Silva, executive vice president of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, New Jersey Region. “We know Chris Bollwage is the candidate who is going to stand up for working families in Elizabeth and continue to move this city forward, to a better and brighter future for all its residents.”
1199SEIU represents the largest percentage of long-term care workers in New Jersey, including certified nurse’s assistants, LPNs, recreational aides, maintenance workers, housekeepers and home health aides.
Bollwage is being challenged by Oscar Ocasio, a former director of planning and community development for the city who resigned in 2010 amid allegations of misconduct. Ocasio has denied any wrongdoing and says that he has since been exonerated by federal investigators.
